New deputy mayor in Port Hawkesbury

Councillors in Port Hawkesbury have a new deputy mayor.

Hughie MacDougall, Deputy Mayor, has taken over the position from Trevor Boudreau.

Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, Mayor, says the process comes down serving a four year term; and with five councillors, one being the mayor's position, it only makes sense for each councillor to be deputy mayor for a one-year term.

After Monday night's council meeting, Chisholm-Beaton said MacDougall brings lots of experience to the council table.

"He can speak to some of the directions or some of the experiences or history that might have transpired prior to 2012," she said. "I wouldn't necessarily have that information."

Chisholm-Beaton said the order of deputy mayor is served based on vote totals from the election, so MacDougall would have had the second highest number of votes.
