Two locals earn provincial bravery medals

Two men from the Quad Counties have received the Nova Scotia Medal of Bravery.

Liam Bernard and Shane Bernard from the We'koqma'q First Nation were honoured during a ceremony at Province House in Halifax Wednesday morning.

The pair risked their own lives to rescue tourists from a burning truck following a two-vehicle collision in Melford, Inverness Co. in Sept., 2016.

Shane Bernard accepted his bravery medal; Liam Bernard's family members accepted on his behalf- he's in Edmonton looking for employment.

He received the Governor General's Star of Courage in September.

In total, four people received bravery medals.
