Warden says PVSC office closure will hurt growth

The warden of Inverness Co. says the closure of a Property Valuation Services Corporation office in the Quad Counties will have a big impact.

Betty Ann MacQuarrie says PVSC employees at the Port Hawkesbury location serve people throughout the region.

She says it will also mean a loss of employment, and will limit growth.

MacQuarrie tells The Hawk the office is a big part of a community.

"They do say that they are going to have people working from their homes- that could be helpful to residents and municipal government," she says. "However, an office is a stable entity in a community."

MacQuarrie says municipal officials are still feeling the loss of their land registry office and courthouse after their closures.

She says the topic hasn't been brought up at the UNSM conference yet, but will be discussed.

The next closest PVSC offices are in Sydney and Truro; company reps say the Port Hawkesbury location will close in February.
