Inverness Co. wharves might not get fixed anytime soon

The warden of Inverness Co. says something needs to be done with some wharves in the area, but it might not happen before winter weather hits.

Betty Ann MacQuarrie says transportation to Port Hood Island starts from Murphy's Pond- where the boat to take people to the island docks.

She says it used to be at the government wharf in Port Hood, but that's in deplorable condition.

MacQuarrie tells The Hawk a fix probably won't happen anytime soon; they're looking for other funding.

"I really don't think there will be anything done before winter," she says. "We have to gather funding and hopefully there will be funding assistance from other levels of government."

MacQuarrie has said the short-term, "Band-Aid solution" cost, for the Port Hood Island Wharf could be around $200, 000; a long-term fix could cost more than $1, 000 000.
