No Loney Bowl in AUS Football this season

There will be no conference final in Atlantic University Sport Football this season.

The Loney Bowl was originally slated for Saturday; the Acadia Axemen were scheduled to play the Saint Mary's Huskies, who advanced after a 16-15 victory over StFX last Saturday.

U Sports, the national university sport governing body for our country, officials have been investigating a player eligibility concern with the Saint Mary's program.

Atlantic University Sport officials say as a result of no determined outcome of the investigation yet, Acadia, the conference champion, will represent the AUS and host the Ontario University Athletics conference champion in the U Sports Uteck Bowl.

Phil Currie, Executive Director of AUS, tells The Hawk it wouldn't be fair to make the Axemen wait for a ruling from U Sports officials.

"It's a fairly serious contact sport," he says. "To play on a Wednesday or Tuesday, and then play again on a Saturday in a national championship, would put certainly whoever was successful coming out of that game at a serious disadvantage."

Currie says U Sports officials are involved in some legal issues and that process is holding things up.

The Uteck Bowl is Saturday, Nov., 18.
