ROC members open doors to new store

Officials with the ROC Society have opened the doors to a new location in the Town of Port Hawkesbury.

Shauna Cotton, the development coordinator for the group, tells The Hawk they have a lot more space in the new store.

She says they've wanted an opportunity to grow for about 10 years.

Cotton tells The Hawk they offer a wide variety of items.

"It offers our baked goods- so breads and rolls, as well as our squares and cookies," she says. "We also have our homemade crafts- that's also jewelry and wholesale items- and we have second-hand clothing."

Cotton says the store will provide more opportunities for members, giving them more transferable skills if they choose to seek employment elsewhere in the community.

She says they'll be able to better establish themselves.

"We're really looking forward to having a space where people know who we are and what we do," she says. "(We're) creating more employment opportunities for our members (and) getting more of our members visible in the community."

The store opened on MacQuarrie Dr. Extension in Port Hawkesbury Thursday.
