Well-known Antigonish musician has passed away

A musician well-known in Celtic music circles across the province has passed away.

James "Jimmy" MacPherson, of Antigonish, died at St. Martha's Regional Hospital after a brief illness Wednesday; he was 68.

MacPherson majored in piano, with a double-minor in voice and organ at StFX; he was a member of the Antigonish Highland Society's Gaelic Choir that performed as part of the first Nova Scotia International Tattoo in 1979.

He was a vocalist, organist and senior choir director at St. Ninian's for close to 50 years.

MacPherson's funeral is Monday.
