Officials say it's important to honour our veterans on Remembrance Day

Officials with the Port Hawkesbury Veterans Memorial Park Society say we should always be honouring our veterans, but especially on Remembrance Day, Saturday.

Belle MacIntyre, secretary-treasurer of the society, says we have a free country because of those who have fought for us.

She says whether we wear a poppy or not- that's optional, but it's important to attend a service and respect our veterans Nov. 11.

MacIntyre tells The Hawk a lot of us have a connection to someone who has fought or is fighting four our country.

"There isn't too many families around here that doesn't have somebody that they've lost or that has served in the military during war or after war."

MacIntyre says each of the 2, 224 names in the
Port Hawkesbury Veterans Memorial Park are from families in the Quad Counties.

She says we should always honour our veterans, not just on Remembrance Day- we should try to imagine what things would be like without their service.
