Local sports preview (Wednesday)

The StFX men's hockey team is in Halifax for AUS action.

They visit the Dalhousie Tigers.

The X-Men (13-1-2) have won five straight; they're second in the seven-team conference with 28 points, two points back of UNB for top spot; they're ranked fourth in the country.

The Tigers (2-13-1) are last with five points.

StFX has won the first two games in the five-game season series between the teams.

Game time is 7 p.m.


The SAERC Saints host the Eskasoni Coyotes in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League.

The Saints lead the six-team league with sixteen points, two points up on Eskasoni and Dalbrae; they're tied for second.

Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 7 p.m.


Saint Andrews' Declan Smith, Beaver Meadow's Ryan MacLellan and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles are on home ice in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

They host the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

The Screaming Eagles (13-11-2) have lost two of their last three; they're eleventh in the eighteen-team league with 28 points, a point behind Moncton for tenth.

The Huskies (14-6-6) are in a three-way tie with Halifax and Rimouski for fifth with 34 points.

It's the first game of the season between the teams.

Puck drop at Centre 200 in Sydney is 7 p.m.
