Local sports preview (Wednesday)

The Battle of Cape Breton resumes in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

The Cape Breton West Islanders visit the Cape Breton Tradesmen.

The Islanders (16-5-0), winners of back-to-back games and seven of their last eight, are third in the eight-team league with 32 points, a point behind Dartmouth for second, and five points ahead of fourth-place Cole Harbour; the Tradesmen (7-12-2) are seventh with 16 points.

Each team has one win in the season series.

Game time in Membertou is 7 p.m.

The SAERC Saints visit the Eskasoni Coyotes in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League.

The Saints (7-4-1) lead the six-team league with 22 points, six points up on second-place Inverness/Baddeck Academy; the Coyotes (5-4-0) are tied with Dalbrae for fourth with 14 points, a point behind Cape Breton Highlands Academy/NDA for third, and eight points ahead of last-place Richmond Academy.

Puck drop at the Eskasoni Arena is 7 p.m.

Antigonish's Blade Mann-Dixon and the Halifax Mooseheads kick off a four-game road trip with a game in Shawinigan in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Mooseheads (17-8-4), who have won back-to-back games and three of their last four, are tied with Rouyn-Noranda for sixth in the 18-team league with 38 points, a point back of Acadie-Bathurst for top spot in their division, and three points ahead of Charlottetown and Sherbrooke, who are tied for eighth overall; the last-place Cataractes (8-21-1) have 17 points.

It's the first game of the season between the teams.

Game time is 8 p.m.
