Local sports preview (Thursday)

The Antigonish Bulldogs have a rare Thursday night game in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.

They're in Brookfield to take on the Elks.

Antigonish (8-11-2) has won back-to-back games and three of the last four to sit third in the five-team Sid Rowe Division with 18 points, 12 points behind Pictou Co. for second, and a point up on the fourth-place Pirates; Brookfield (2-14-3) is last in the six-team Fred Fox Division with seven points.

It's the first match-up of the season between the teams.

Game time is 7:30 p.m.

It's the first of two games in as many nights for the Bulldogs, who return home to host Pictou Co. Friday night.


St. Andrews' Declan Smith, Beaver Meadow's Ryan MacLellan and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles host the Gatineau Olympiques in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Screaming Eagles (15-12-2), who have won back-to-back games and three of their last four, are tied with Gatineau (14-10-4) for 10th in the 18-team league with 32 points, three points back of Charlottetown and Sherbrooke, who are tied for eighth, and three points ahead of 12th-place Moncton.

It's the first game of the season between the teams.

Puck drop at Centre 200 in Sydney is 7 p.m.
