Local sports preview (Saturday)

The top players from the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League face-off in Port Hood.

The league's all-star game takes place at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre.

The event gets underway at 6 p.m.

 

Mike Schmitt Boy Hockey Tournament in Truro

Antigonish Midget AA Bulldogs are participating in the Mike Schmitt Boy Hockey Tournament in Truro this weekend.

On Friday they had a win and a tie

The Midget AA boys will next see action on Saturday at 1:30 pm against Bedford.

 


There are a pair of games in the Antigonish Rural League.

The County Outlaws play the Pleasantdale Panthers at 7 p.m. and the Heatherton Warriors take on the St. Croix Angels at 8:30 p.m.

Both games are at the Antigonish Arena.


The Battle of Nova Scotia resumes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Antigonish's Blade Mann-Dixon and the Halifax Mooseheads host St. Andrews' Declan Smith, Beaver Meadow's Ryan MacLellan and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the first half of a home-and-home series as part of the second annual Hurley Cup, a two-game total-goal series between the province's two QMJHL teams.

Cape Breton won the inaugural event in 2016; Halifax has won five of the first six games in the nine-game season series.

Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax is 2 p.m.

The teams square off again in Sydney Sunday afternoon.
