No charges to RCMP officers following SiRT investigation of Waycobah arrest

Officials with the province's police watchdog say charges will not be laid against RCMP officers following the arrest of a female, 17, in Waycobah.

They say RCMP officers responded to a Waycobah residence in the evening Aug. 23; the homeowner had requested the removal of an intoxicated female.

SiRT officials say an attending officer observed a highly intoxicated young female before arresting her for breach of the peace and, making suicidal threats, as per the Involuntary Psychiatric Treatment Act.

They say the arresting officer had the female examined by EHS officials; she was medically cleared and held in custody overnight.

Officials say she was taken to Strait Richmond Hospital for mental condition assessment the next morning; she revealed she was experiencing leg pain- an X-ray showed her ankle was broken.

They say the female gave a statement to the SiRT Investigator saying she was kicking the cell door; there was nothing done by police officers to lead to the broken ankle.

SiRT officials say there were no grounds to consider charges against the arresting officer.
