Highland Fling with Bob MacEachern - Sundays @ 6pm

The history of Highland Fling is very closely connected to the resurgence of Cape Breton Fiddle music.  The program first aired in November 1975 with host (noted piano player/composer) Joey Beaton as a Saturday night half hour show.  It quickly gained in audience and popularity with its focus on fiddle, piano, bagpipes and Gaelic song which resulted in the show being lengthened to one-hour and moved to Sunday evenings.  Subsequent hosts have included Dan MacDonald and John MacDonald.  I have been hosting the program since January of 1982 and am currently a board member of the Cape Breton Fiddler's Association.

The Highland Fling library consists of the most popular commercial recordings of the past 4 decades as well as a rich variety of home-made recordings from concerts, ceilidhs and house sessions.  Without question the most popular features are the live off the floor recordings that bring home the flavour and spirit of a good kitchen session.  Our library has been shared with the Celtic Music Centre in Judique and at the Beaton Institute at Cape Breton University...click the CBU link for some dandy Gaelic tunes.  A great source of Gaelic traditions, stories and music and can experienced here.
