Bulldogs, Scotians return to Trenton for game three

The Antigonish Bulldogs are on the road as their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoff series against the Pictou Co. Scotians shifts back to Trenton.

The Bulldogs won the opening two games of the best-of-seven, first-round series with a win in game two in Antigonish Friday night.

Dave Synishin, Antigonish's head coach, tells The Hawk they change a few things when they travel to Trenton.

"We (have) to adjust our penalty kill a little bit because of the size of the rink and what they try to do on their power play," he says. "That's both on the forecheck and also in the defensive zone on the penalty kill."

Game time is 7 p.m.

The series returns to Antigonish for game four Tuesday night.

 

Local sports preview (Sunday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders host the Cape Breton Tradesmen in the second game of their Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League playoff series.

The Islanders won the opening game of the best-of-seven, first-round series in Port Hood Saturday night.

Puck drop at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre is 6 p.m.

The series shifts to Membertou for game three Tuesday night.


The Northern Selects host the Penguins in the second of back-to-back games in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Selects won the first game between the teams in New Glasgow Saturday afternoon.

The Selects lead the seven-team league; the Penguins are sixth.

Game time at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre is 11:30 a.m.


The Strait Richmond Midget A's continue their Round Robin Playoffs in the five team League

Strait Richmond will host New Waterford at 2:30pm in the Richmond Arena.

They won the opening game of the play-offs be defeating North Sydney on Friday.


The Novas are on home ice for their final regular season game in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

They host the Rangers.

The Novas (11-17-4), who have lost back-to-back games and three of their last four, are ninth in the 12-team league with 26 points; the Rangers are third.

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 1 p.m.


The StFX basketball teams are home for their second AUS games against the Memorial Seahawks in as many days.

The teams met in Antigonish Saturday night...the X-Men came out on top while the X-Women suffered a loss.

The women get underway at 1 p.m.; the men tip off at 3 p.m.

Ewan MacDonald was in the net for the win.

The Islanders lead best-of-seven first-round series, 1 - 0

Game two is in Port Hood Sunday night.
