Local sports preview (Wednesday)

The Battle of Nova Scotia resumes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

St. Andrews' Declan Smith, Beaver Meadow's Ryan MacLellan and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles host Antigonish's Blade Mann-Dixon and the Halifax Mooseheads.

The Mooseheads (18-9-5), who have lost two of their last three, are seventh in the 18-team league with 41 points, a point behind Acadie-Bathurst for top spot in the Maritimes Division and the league's third seed, and three points ahead of eighth-place Gatineau.

The Screaming Eagles (15-13-3), losers of back-to-back games, are tied with Victoriaville for 11th with 33 points, four points behind Charlottetown and Sherbrooke, who are tied for ninth, and two points ahead of Chicoutimi and Moncton, who are tied for 13th.

Halifax has won three of the first four games in the nine-game season series; three of those four games were decided by one goal.

Puck drop at Centre 200 in Sydney is 7 p.m.

The teams meet again in Halifax Saturday night.

The Huskies (6-3-0) move into second in the six-team league with the win with 18 points, four points behind SAERC for top spot, and one point ahead of third-place Eskasoni; the Hurricanes (2-11-0) remain last, eight points behind Dalbrae for fifth.
