StFX hockey teams hold rankings in national standings

The StFX hockey teams have held their spots in the nationwide standings.

U Sports officials announced their latest top 10 rankings Tuesday.

The X-Men remain in third; they open their best-of-five AUS semifinal series on home ice against Acadia Thursday after receiving a first-round bye.

The X-Women stay in fourth; they also earned a first round bye and open their first round best-of-three semifinal series against Moncton Wednesday.

Bulldogs try to finish off Scotians on home ice

The Antigonish Bulldogs will go for the series sweep when they host the Pictou Co. Scotians in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.

The Bulldogs won the first three games in the best-of-seven, first-round series, with the last two games decided by one goal.

Dave Synishin, Antigonish's head coach, tells The Hawk the game plan has been working.

"First game, we both played a good first period, and then we kind of took over in the second (and) ended up going up 5-1, and I think, mentally, that probably did a little bit of damage to Pictou," he says. "Since then, we've just been working hard- we've had to make a couple of adjustments, especially in their rink, but really, the boys are sticking to what we're asking of them and just working hard so far."

Puck drop at the Antigonish Arena is 7:30 p.m.

A Bulldogs' win means they advance to face the winner of the Pirates-Miners series in the Sid Rowe Division final; a Scotians' win sends the series back to Trenton for game five Sunday night.
