Antigonish County is making changes to the way it deals with sludge from its wastewater treatment facility.
The county has purchased a truck that will help eliminate lagoons at its Beech Hill landfill site.
Municipal clerk Allan Bond tells The Hawk it's an efficient process.
"It takes the sludge from the treatment plant, takes all of the water out of it," he says. "What is left is essentially almost a compost material that we use as cover material at our existing landfill site."
Bond says the truck is the first one of its kind built in North America.
He says the county is closing the lagoons even though it's still allowed to have them, but he expects the province will ban them at some point. |
