The only link between Cape Breton Island and Mainland Nova Scotia was
closed for several hours Friday night.

Officials were forced to close the Canso Causeway due to high winds.

That resulted in rocks and debris being washed up onto the road...the Department of Transportation used snow plows to clear the road before traffic was able to make the trek across.

The disruption meant travellers spent several hours stranded in their cars.
