A pair of communities in the Quad Counties will be getting solar panels installed.
Officials with the provincial government announced three locations for the panels in Antigonish and Whycocomagh.
They say panels will go on the water treatment facility in Antigonish- generating up to 50 kilowatts of electricity.
Additional panels will go up at StFX‘s Physical Science Complex- generating up to 18 kilowatts.
We’koqma’q First Nation Band Council Office will also get panels on the roof- up to 15 kilowatts will be generated.
The generated electricity will be sold back to the utility of Antigonish and Whycocomagh, as part of a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement.
Officials say the impact on ratepayers is already built into the rate stability plan, capped at 0.1 per cent.
18 applications were chosen to participate across the province; programs will be offered for two more years- the next round will be installed in 2018.
