Town councillors in Port Hawkesbury are looking at the possibility of an outdoor skating rink.
At Tuesday night’s town council meeting, officials discussed the need for an area with lights, bathrooms, water and storage.
After the meeting, Brenda Chisholm-Beaton, mayor of the town, said she believes there’s capacity to flood the all-sports court in the Port Hawkesbury Community Park.
Chisholm-Beaton said this would take away some of the dangers of outdoor skating.
“Because of winters that aren’t quite as cold anymore, that’s not always safe,” she said. “This will be a safe opportunity to skate outside; it’s a really exciting opportunity.”
Chisholm-Beaton said a possible timeline is tough to determine- a group of volunteers is needed for maintenance and some more details would have to be established.
