An attendance support worker will be coming to the Strait Regional School Board.
Sherman England, Regional Education Officer, says the first year will be a pilot project.
He says the location will be selected by board officials based on data collected.
After Wednesday night’s school board meeting, England said it will be a combined effort.
“It will be one employee- they will work with either a school or a feeder system; we call feeder system in the Strait region,” he said. “That school or feeder system will work with the school, school administration, community services (and) SchoolsPlus.”
England says provincial policy came into effect the Oct. 1; provincial officials announced 14 pilot projects throughout our province five weeks later.
He says attendance within the board appears to be good, but can always be improved.
England says the next step is identifying sites; the pilot project is scheduled to be in place until the end of the next school year.
