Town councillors in Antigonish have voted against providing financial support to a new recreation facility in Guysborough.
Guysborough municipal officials asked their Antigonish town counterparts to support their new $8, 900, 000 Chedabucto Lifestyle Complex.
Councillors debated the request at Monday night’s regular meeting, they voted 4-2 against making a $5, 000 contribution.
After the meeting, Laurie Boucher, Antigonish mayor, said they felt they have to look after their own house first.
“We do have old buildings, old fields and old infrastructure,” she said. “We do have to put some money towards our own; there’s been a lot of work done in the past four months, but we have lots more to do.”
Boucher said their tennis courts need to be repaired and their baseball field needs upgrades before the Special Olympics National Summer Games in the town in July.
