The mayor of Antigonish says new traffic lights at a busy intersection in the town should be operational any day now.
Town councillors approved the money for the lights at West St. and Highland Dr. as part of their 2017-2018 budget.
The cost of the project is close to $120, 000.
After Monday night’s regular town council meeting, Laurie Boucher, mayor of the town, said the new lights were supposed to running by the end of October, but things got delayed.
“We were expecting them to be up and working a lot earlier than they were,” she said. “But, we’re very pleased- I know that our staff did all they could to get them up earlier, but unforeseen circumstances caused delays, so we’re very happy they’re finally going to be working.”
Boucher said town officials will monitor the impact of the lights on traffic flow to determine how the timing works and if there are traffic build-ups in other areas as a result.
