Mark Furey, the province’s justice minister, says he will act on the recommendation from Dr. Matt Bowes, Chief Medical Examiner- who’s calling for the launch of an inquiry into the deaths of Lionel Desmond and his family in Guysborough Co.
The retired corporal shot his 52-year-old mother, his 32-year-old wife and their 10-year-old daughter before taking his own life in Upper Big Tracadie, Jan. 3.
Desmond had been diagnosed with PTSD and post-concussion disorder following two Afghanistan tours in 2007.
Justice department officials say the inquiry’s terms of reference and the judge who will oversee it will be announced in the New Year.
