You’ll soon have another option for skating if you live in the Town of Port Hawkesbury.
Jeremy White, a town councillor, says a kit for an outdoor rink will be ordered Tuesday.
He says members of a committee have chosen the town’s tennis court as the location for the surface, as it already has lighting, water and a caged-in area.
After January’s regular town council meeting Monday night, White said they’ve had a lot of support for the idea.
“We’ve had a lot of town members and people that are involved in making ice come to the meeting (Monday) apparently, which is great news,” he said. “It makes the job a lot easier- experience- but it’s been great, feedback (has) been great.”
White said they had an initial meeting in December, followed by Monday’s discussion.
He said it will be a nice option for town residents.
“I think it’s more important for the citizens- they wanted it, it was just expression of interest to have it,” he said. “It’s where kids can go outdoors and skate and have that fun- instead of having to be in a facility, they can go anytime they want.”
White said it will be nice to provide residents the opportunity to go skating whenever they want, and to be able to be outdoors at the same time.
He said the next step will be to get the kit on the ground when it arrives.
White said it’s tough to determine a timeline, but they’re aiming to have things ready before the end of January if all goes well.
