The warden of Antigonish Co. says municipal officials have met on issues involving Homecoming Weekend with their StFX counterparts.
Owen McCarron says town and county officials sat down and discussed a number of topics with StFX reps recently.
He says there were some issues at the most recent homecoming event in the fall.
After January’s regular municipal council meeting Tuesday night, McCarron said they want to make the event better for everyone involved.
“There was talk about some large gatherings and so,” he said. “I think, going forward, they just want to make sure that homecomings are safe and enjoyed by all people that come, and people local as well- I think that’s really the thrust behind it.”
McCarron said the meeting led to some good, positive conversation.
“Obviously, there was a lot of buzz about the homecoming,” he said. “It’s like everything, there’s always hype at the time, and then things cool off- I think there will be some good solutions coming forward.”
McCarron said they plan to sit down again at some point.
He said future meetings will have a more inclusive group of people involved.
