Two former members of the X-Men football team charged following a sexual assault investigation at StFX have elected to be tried in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.
Jonah Williams, 19, of Halifax has been charged with three counts of sexual assault against two different women; Tyler Ball, 18, of Truro faces a single count of sexual assault in the case.
Both had election-and-plea hearings in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday; they elected Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge-and-jury trials.
They’re scheduled to return to court for preliminary inquiries June 11-12, except Williams, who is expected for an election-and-plea hearing on one of his charges Feb. 21.
The pair played defensive back for StFX- Williams was in the team’s starting line-up, Ball wasn’t.
Neither Williams nor Ball are still with the X-Men football program.
RCMP say an 18-year-old told them she was sexually assaulted on campus in November; that led a 19-year-old to come forward and report two separate cases of sexual assault on campus.
