Officials with the Strait Regional School Board say work on the roof of Fanning Education Centre/Canso Academy is ongoing to repair leaks.
Paul Landry, Acting Director of Operations, says students from the school were dismissed early Monday due to a large buildup of snow and ice on the roof, and there was a lot of rain.
He says they were able to contain the leaks that day and evening, before reopening the school Tuesday.
After the SRSB meeting Wednesday night, Landry said they’re looking into the issue.
“It’s some patching that’s taking place on the roof where there was some damage due to the ice and snow buildup,” he said. “Also, some melting application applied to certain areas on the roof and roof drains.”
Landry said they don’t have a cost of repairs yet, but the school is scheduled for a larger repair when weather permits in the spring.
