The X-Women (20-2-2) finished the regular season in top spot in the seven-team conference with 42 points; they had a first-round playoff bye.
The Blue Eagles (10-10-4) were fifth with 24 points; they defeated Dalhousie in three games in the first round.
Ben Berthiaume, head coach of StFX, told The Hawk Morning Show they’ll have their hands full with Moncton.
“They’re stacked up front and they have very good goaltending; one thing about them, they come at you- it’s going to a battle,” he said. “They beat us once this year, we beat them in overtime the last time and they’re a good-skating hockey team, they move the puck well and do a good job of getting pucks to the net, so we’re going to have to be ready for them.”
The X-Women won three of the four games in the season series.
Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 7 p.m.
The series shifts to Moncton for game two Saturday night.
