St. Andrews’ Declan Smith and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles open a four-game road trip through Quebec when they visit the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The Screaming Eagles (26-23-7), losers of two of their last three, are 12th in the 18-team league with 59 points, four points behind the Phoenix (26-22-11) for 11th, and three points ahead of 13th-place Moncton.
It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- Cape Breton slipped by Sherbrooke 5-4 in overtime in Sydney Feb. 3.
Game time is 8 p.m.
It’s the first of three games in as many nights for the Screaming Eagles, who visit Victoriaville Saturday night, and league-leading Blainville-Boisbriand Sunday.
The StFX basketball teams visit the UPEI Panthers in AUS action.
The X-Men (8-10), who have won back-to-back games and have already clinched a playoff spot, are fifth in the eight-team conference with 22 points, four points up on sixth-place Memorial; the Panthers (3-15), who will miss the playoffs, are seventh with eight points.
It’s the second and final game of the season between the teams- StFX beat UPEI 102-72 in Antigonish in January.
The X-Women (1-17), who have been eliminated from playoff contention, are last in their eight-team conference with two points; the playoff-bound Panthers (9-9) are tied for fourth with 26 points.
UPEI beat StFX 85-53 in Antigonish in the first game of the season between the teams in January.
Both games are worth four points in the conference standings.
The women get underway at 6 p.m.; the men tip off at 8 p.m.
The StFX track-and-field teams are in Moncton.
The X-Men and X-Women are competing in the AUS championship.
It gets underway Friday; it wraps up Saturday.
