Richmond Co.’s warden says supporting members of the Strait Area Ground Search and Rescue is worth it, and he will definitely be supporting the group during budget deliberations.
Members presented to councillors at this week’s county council meeting; they asked for $5, 000- up from $3, 000 last year.
After, Brian Marchand, Warden, told The Hawk SAGSAR members are working on a tight budget.
“We’re getting asked for more and more from many of the organizations,” he said. “Costs are going up, but that definitely is a worthwhile cause; these people are doing this on a meager budget.”
Marchand said their councillors have always supported the group.
Members said Richmond Co. municipal officials are one of the only municipalities to fully support their financial requests.
They said they cover the largest area in the province, but their equipment isn’t comparable to what some other groups have.
