The StFX women’s hockey team opens the best-of-three AUS final on home ice when they host the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
It’s a match-up of the top two regular season teams in the seven-team conference- StFX (20-2-2) finished first with 42 points, a point ahead of second-place Saint Mary’s (20-3-1).
StFX won three of the four games in the season series between the teams.
Both teams had byes through the first round of the conference playoffs- the X-Women swept Moncton in their best-of-three AUS semi-final series, while the Huskies swept St. Thomas in their semi-final.
Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 7 p.m.
The winner has a chance to sweep the series when the series shifts to Halifax for game two Sunday night.
Both teams have already clinched spots in the U Sports Championship in London, Ont. March 15-18.
The Northern Selects open the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League Championship with a pair of games in Moncton.
The Selects play the Penguins at 10 a.m., then meet the host Moncton Rockets at 4 p.m.
They play their third game against the Northern Lightning Saturday afternoon.
The 2018 Highland Region Division 3 Boys Hockey Championship takes place at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
The tournament is made up of the six teams from the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League- the host SAERC Saints, Dalbrae Dragons, Cape Breton Highlands Academy/NDA Huskies, Inverness/Baddeck Academy Rebels, Eskasoni Warriors and Richmond Academy Hurricanes.
Action starts Friday afternoon- Dalbrae takes on Inverness/Baddeck Academy at 4:30 p.m., Cape Breton Highlands Academy/NDA and Eskasoni meet at 6 p.m. and SAERC and Richmond Academy play at 7:30 p.m.
The preliminary round continues Saturday; the semi-finals, bronze, and championship games are Sunday.

St. Andrews’ Declan Smith and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles play their second-last game of a six-game road trip through Quebec when they visit the Val-d’Or Foreurs in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The Screaming Eagles (27-26-8), with one win in their last five, are 12th in the 18-team league with 62 points, five points behind Sherbrooke for 11th, and three points ahead of 13th-place Baie-Comeau; the Foreurs (19-35-6) are 16th with 44 points.
It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- Cape Breton doubled Val-d’Or 4-2 in Sydney in December.
Game time is 8:30 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles wrap up their trip in Rouyn-Noranda Saturday night.
The StFX men’s basketball team opens play at the 2018 AUS Championship in Halifax when they face the Acadia Axemen in the quarter-finals.
The X-Men (9-11), the tournament’s fifth seed, finished the regular season with 26 points; Acadia, the fourth seed, had 40 points.
Acadia won three of the four regular season games between the teams.
Tip off at Scotiabank Centre is 6:30 p.m.
The winner advances to face Dalhousie, the top seed in the tournament, in the semi-finals Saturday night.
