Officials with the Strait Richmond Minor Hockey Association says this year’s March break tournament is a bit smaller than years past.
Leon Burt, co-chairperson of the tournament and VP of SRMHA, says March break is always a busy time to get teams to the area, but the volunteers do a great job.
He says they’re keeping things pretty consistent in their 38th year with the exception of moving the novice games to February- they’ll probably look into that again next year.
Burt tells The Hawk the tournament has a great impact on the Quad Counties.
“This tournament means a lot to the community in millions of ways; we’re bringing in around 14 teams that are coming in from away,” he says. “Probably seven of them are going to be staying at hotels overnight, eating at restaurants.”
The games are being held at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre and Richmond Arena in Louisdale; the tournament wraps up Mar. 25.
