Antigonish Co.’s warden says municipal officials should have their 2018-19 budget finalized in time for May’s council meeting.
Owen McCarron says they’re in the process of finalizing their community grants.
He says that should be done in the next week or so.
After Tuesday night’s monthly council meeting, McCarron said a relatively mild winter helped their bottom line for the 2017-18 fiscal year.
“From the winter works, we saved about $31,000- a combination of fuel and salt,” he said. “Not to mention no overtime, so that’s money we didn’t have to spend that sometimes you don’t have control (of); that was a nice saving on that budget item alone.”
McCarron said they’ve had more community funding requests, for higher amounts.
He said their goal is to hold the line on their residential and commercial tax rates.
