Inverness County councillors have passed a motion to approve three tax write-offs.
A write-off for Le Conseil économique de Chéticamp was signed off for an amount just shy of $2,100.
Another was for Department of Natural Resources properties in the amount of over $5,400, but municipal officials say they’d be receiving grants-in-lieu for those rather than sending a tax bill.
After this week’s council meeting, Betty Ann MacQuarrie, the municipality’s warden, told The Hawk the final sign-off was for properties with a vareity of circumstances, including duplicate or inactive accounts, which was a bit more substantial.
“One of them was totaling (about) $20,000; a sum which is sizeable,” she said. “We have to swallow that.”
MacQuarrie said the write-offs will provide a clearer financial picture of where they stand.
