A pair of local hockey players have started their seasons overseas with new teams.
Port Hawkesbury’s Aaron Johnson has moved to the United Kingdom to play with the Sheffield Steelers of the Elite Ice Hockey League.
They lost their season opener Saturday, Johnson recorded an assist.
The 35-year-old blueliner spent the last two seasons with the Mannheim Eagles in the German Elite League.
Antigonish’s Alex Grant has joined Jokerit of the Kontinental Hockey League.
They won their first two games to open the season.
The 29-year-old defenseman played the last two seasons with Boston’s and Minnesota’s farms teams in the American Hockey League.
