Reps for Port Hawkesbury town council say rainbow crosswalks will be coming to the town soon.
Mayor Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says she hopes to see rainbow crosswalks before pride week.
Pride week falls in June across Canada.
After Tuesday night’s regular town council meeting Chisholm-Beaton said by law the rainbow crosswalks are not allowed to be on provincial property.
“So the rainbow crosswalks, we would be looking at locations that would be off of Reeves St.,” she says. “Potentially we could be looking at a location near SAERC High school, [we] could be looking at a location maybe very near our community park.”
Chisholm-Beaton said she looks forward to the project and that Port Hawkesbury is an inclusive community.
She said there is a lot of safety factors that go into the project, including design and materials.
