Guysborough’s warden says officials with Anaconda Mining are taking positive steps toward a proposed gold mine in the municipality.
Company reps have proposed a 125 hectare mine in Goldboro that would employ as many as 200 people at peak production.
They’ve said work could start as early as 2020.
After Wednesday’s regular municipal council meeting, Warden Vernon Pitts said there are plenty of positive signs.
“They’ll be taking their bulk sample before year end,” he says. “There’s a few more hurrdles that they have to overcome, but they continue to make progress.”
Anaconda reps regisitered for an environmental assessment in August.
The province’s environment minister said documents they provided were insufficient to allow for assessment and asked for more information last month.
