It’s a busy Wednesday night on the local sports schedule.
There are five games on the ice.
The Battle of Cape Breton resumes in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League as the Cape Breton West Islanders and Cape Breton Tradesmen meet in Membertou.
The Islanders (8-4-1), who have won two of their last three, are third in the eight-team league with 17 points, three points behind the Valley for second, and a point ahead of fourth-place Halifax; the Tradesmen (4-10-1) are seventh with nine points.
It’s the second game of the season between the teams- Cape Breton West won the first 5-3 in Membertou in September.
Game time is 7 p.m.
There are a pair of games in the Cape Breton West High School Hockey League.
The SAERC Saints host the Inverness-Baddeck Academy Rebels at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.
Both teams won their season openers- the Saints (1-0-0) earned a shootout win against Richmond Academy in Louisdale Thursday night, while the Rebels (1-0-0) beat Eskasoni 6-1 in Baddeck Friday night.
The Dalbrae Dragons visit the Eskasoni Warriors.
It’s the first game of the season for the Dragons; the Warriors (0-1-0) lost their only game so far to Inverness-Baddeck Academy.
Both games get underway at 7 p.m.
The province’s two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams are in action.
St. Andrews’ Declan Smith and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles host the Chicoutimi Sagueneens at Centre 200 in Sydney.
The Screaming Eagles (9-9-1), losers of two of their last three, are tied with Quebec for 10th in the 18-team league with 19 points, two points behind the two teams tied for eighth, and a point ahead of the two teams tied for 12th; the Sagueneens (10-4-4) are sixth with 24 points.
It’s the first game of the season between the teams- they meet again in Chicoutimi Nov. 17.
The Halifax Mooseheads are in New Brunswick to play Pomquet’s Logan Chisholm and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
The Mooseheads (13-4-1), who have lost two of their last three, are tied with Drummondville for fourth with 27 points, three points behind Moncton for top spot in the division- and second overall- and three points ahead of sixth-place Chicoutimi; they’re ranked fifth in the country.
The Titan (4-13-1) are 17th with nine points.
The teams have met once so far- Halifax won 5-0 in Bathurst in October.
