The Cape Breton West Islanders play their third and final preliminary round game at the 2018 Monctonian AAA Challenge in New Brunswick.
The Islanders (1-1-0), who split their first two games of the tournament, meet the Markham Majors (2-0-0), who won their first two, in the midget division at 8:45 a.m.
Preliminary round play wraps up Saturday; the playoffs get underway Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile in the Bantam Triple A Division, the Novas who completed the preliminary round with a record of 2-1-0 have moved to the playoff round.
Their first playoff game is at 2:15 Saturday against the Rangers.
The Cabot Highlanders are home in the Nova Scotia Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
They host the Admirals.
The Highlanders (1-9-0) are last in the eight-team league with two points, a point back of Cape Breton for seventh; the Admirals (7-2-1) are second with 15 points.
It’s the first game of the season between the teams.
Puck drop at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre is 6:30 p.m.
The Highlanders travel to Shearwater to face Dartmouth Sunday afternoon.
The two local teams are on the ice in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League.
The Northern Selects host the Penguins.
The undefeated Selects (11-0-2) lead the seven-team league with 24 points, six points up on second-place Halifax; the Penguins (1-7-3) are tied for fifth with five points.
The teams have met once so far- the Selects shutout the Penguins 14-0 in Bedford in their season opener in September.
Puck drop at the Pictou Co. Wellness Centre in New Glasgow is 12:30 p.m.
The Selects visit Halifax Sunday morning.
The Cape Breton Panthers are in Bedford to take on Halifax.
The Panthers (6-3-1) are third with 13 points, five points behind undefeated Halifax (8-0-2) for second, and four points ahead of the fourth-place Northern Lightning.
It’s the third game of the season between the teams- Halifax won the first by one goal, and they tied the second, both in September.
Game time is 3:30 p.m.
The Panthers will remain in Bedford, where they’ll face Halifax Sunday afternoon.
There are a pair of games in the Antigonish Rural League.
The St. Croix Angels take on the County Outlaws at 7 p.m.; the Pleasantdale Panthers play the Heatherton Warriors at 8:45 p.m.
Both games are at the Antigonish Arena.
St. Andrews’ Declan Smith and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles play their second of three road game in three nights in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
The Screaming Eagles, who lost in Baie-Comeau Friday night, visit the Chicoutimi Sagueneens (10-6-5).
It’s the second and final regular season game between the teams- Cape Breton won the first 4-1 in Sydney Nov. 7.
Game time is 5 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles are in Shawinigan Sunday night.
The StFX basketball teams host the Dalhousie Tigers to finish off their AUS home-and-home series at the Oland Centre in Antigonish.
The Tigers beat both the X-Men and X-Women in Halifax Wednesday night.
The X-Men (2-2) are fifth in the eight-team conference with four points, two points back of Dalhousie (3-2); the winless X-Women (0-4) are two points behind Dalhousie (1-4).
The women get underway at 1 p.m.; the men tip off at 3 p.m.
