Exciting news for Antigonish.
The Town and the Municipality of Antigonish have been awarded the bid to host the 2019 Nova Scotia 55+ Games.
The games will be held from July 31 to August 3 with an estimated 800 seniors competing.
The 55 + Games will be held throughout Antigonish Town and County and includes bowling, track and field, washer toss, geocaching, swimming, tennis, crib and cycling.
Organizers say the games is an opportunity to enhance active aging, with a focus on the importance of proper mental and physical wellbeing for seniors.
The announcement of the winning bid comes on the heels of the successful Special Olympics National Summer Games event that brought 1500 athletes and their families to Antigonish this past summer.
