Fire has damaged a home in Antigonish.
Members of the Antigonish Volunteer Fire Department say 23 firefighters responded to the fire on Northview Dr. Tuesday.
They say they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a split-level house when they arrived.
A fire department spokesperson says one person was home at the time; they escaped unharmed.
He says they believe the fire started in the kitchen and it was accidental, but they haven’t determined if the building had working smoke alarms.
Officials with the Canadian Red Cross say they’re assisting the affected residents.
They say the woman and her two teenaged sons lost almost all of their belongings.
A woman and three children ages 4 to 9 from the basement apartment will be staying with relatives.
The Red Cross also assisted them with emergency purchases.
