A spokesperson says the past 16 days were important for members of a local organization.
Members of the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre organized “16 Days of Activism.”
They say the goal of the campaign was to raise awareness about sexual violence, because one in three women will experience sexual assault in our country, while one in six young men will be victims of sexual assault before the age of 18.
Arwen Sweet with the resource centre tells The Hawk the campaign was a chance for locals to take action.
“It (was) an opportunity for folks to take action against gender-based violence in their communities.”
Community leaders from the Quad Counties have been providing statements about making a change for the past 16 days.
Cst. Morgan MacPherson, the Antigonish RCMP community policing office, said “Antigonish District RCMP is committed to working with our local community partners to educate the public in an effort to end gender-based violence.”
