The warden of Antigonish Co. says he’s pleased officials with the provincial government have included a local road in their latest highway improvement plan.
Lloyd Hines, the province’s transportation minister and the MLA for Guysborough-Eastern Shore-Tracadie, released the 2019-20 five-year Highway Improvement Plan Tuesday; work to the Antigonish-Guysborough Rd. is included in that plan.
After December’s regular municipal council meeting Wednesday night, Owen McCarron, the municipality’s warden, said they’ve been lobbying their provincial counterparts for upgrades to the road for a while.
“It’s a vital link between Antigonish and Guysborough, and to see the province actually recognize that and get it on the capital list is important,” he said. “We’re very pleased with the minister’s response to that request.”
Five kilometres of the road is included in the province’s Gravel Road Program for 2019-20.
