There’s a new chief administrative officer in the Town of Mulgrave.
Darlene Berthier Sampson officially took on the role Monday.
Outgoing CAO Jim Davis, who announced he was stepping down in November but said he would stay on until a replacement was found, will stick around for a two-week transitional period.
Berthier Sampson, who is originally from Richmond Co., has a financial background- she’s a chartered professional accountant and certified internal auditor.
After January’s regular town council meeting Monday night, Ralph Hadley, Mulgrave’s mayor, told The Hawk they were fortunate to find someone with her experience.
“She’s highly qualified- she’s going to be our CAO (and) finance manager,” he said. “She has lots of credentials- she’s been travelling a lot, doing jobs in other provinces.”
Hadley said Berthier Sampson most recently worked with the College of the North Atlantic in Newfoundland, and also spent time with Marine Atlantic.
He said they asked their counterparts in other municipalities for help in their search, but Berthier Sampson came to them.
“They all sat down and had a meeting- they said at the moment they couldn’t help us,” he said. “We’re very lucky that we were able to get her.”
Hadley said they didn’t receive a lot of applications for the position.
