Poor cell service in Inverness Co. has finally come to a head, and municipal council is going to do something about it.
At January’s regular council meeting, council approved and directed staff to issue a request for proposals to install cell towers in the region.
Warden Betty Ann MacQuarrie tells The Hawk it’s part of the county’s ongoing infrastructure development.
“There are several area’s that need towers, towers [are] the infrastructure that we need for improved cell phone coverage in Inverness Co.,” she says. “It’s a basic need for any municipality to have good infrastructure, so we’re aiming towards that.”
MacQuarrie says they’ve set aside $250,000 dollars for cell towers and are exploring partnerships with other municipal units as well.
