Many areas around the Quad Counties (and beyond) experienced damage from flood waters yesterday.
In Antigonish, one of the hardest hit areas was the Indian Gardens Trailer Court. Residents were evacuated by boats yesterday afternoon. They left their homes with only the essentials.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to collect donations for those who have been forced out of their homes.
Non-monetary drop-offs can be made to Mary MacLellan who has set up two sea cans to collect and sort donations.
The donation site is in the Smith and Fraser Mobile Home Parking Lot in Lower South River. Items can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 27.
To contact Mary about donating, she can be reached at 902-318-0056.
Over the weekend the items will be sorted, and the Knights of Columbus will be arranging a pick-up site at the John Paul Centre on Main Street. Residents of Indian Gardens who need items can stop at the John Paul Centre between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Monday, November 29.
Items that may be dropped off include jackets, coats, gentle used footwear (boots, slippers, running shoes), sweaters, hoodies/lounging clothes, bedding, towels, personal hygiene items, feminine products, and gift cards.
The Town of Antigonish is advising residents who require assistance to phone the RCMP (non-emergency line) at (902) 863-6500. They will then contact the Red Cross for assistance if required.
Currently, those who needed immediate help have been provided local accommodations.
If residents notice damage to Town infrastructure, you can contact the town hall at (902) 863-2351 to report it.
