Provincial medical labs overwhelmed
If you end up with a positive COVID test, it’s now up to you to get in touch with your close contacts.
Doctor Robert Strang, Chief Medical Officer of Health, said omicron has stretched the labs to their limit.
“Our testing program and the lab have also reached capacity. The assessment centres are again running seven days a week, and the lab has suspended some other types of routine testing,” he said. “Its still not enough.”
He said Public Health is now using its resources to help at-risk people.
Strang said that means many low-risk people will be left to manage their infection on their own.
“We are past the point of full control of this variant,” he said. “We have to change how we manage and respond.”
Strang also called on employers to help manage the situation.
