The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has announced a pause in play.
A release from the organisation says the move is in light of increasing COVID-19 cases in Eastern Canada.
“The health and safety of all players and staff members remains our top priority. Therefore, it is appropriate under the current circumstances to remain cautious and to extend the Holiday break.”
All league activities are being suspended until Jan. 7.
Players are still expected to report back to their clubs on Jan. 3 and QMJHL officials are working on testing and COVID-19 protocols for the return to play in the new year.
All postponed games are set to be rescheduled to a later date.
